Wolf Creek and Sand Hollow are the two courses that sell trips to this region. If your group can only play one, here is how to choose. If you can play both — and most of our groups do — here is how they complement each other.

The Wolf Creek Experience
Wolf Creek is spectacle golf. The first tee drops 200 feet into a canyon. Every hole is framed by red and gold rock walls. The slope of 154 makes it one of the hardest courses in the West.
From our 12-man trip: "Every hole is a photo op. Even the non-golfers were speechless." Downside: expensive during peak ($390–$420), rounds take 4.5–5 hours, difficulty can frustrate high-handicappers. Read the full Wolf Creek guide and pricing breakdown.
Sand Hollow — Utah''s #1 public course and the definition of refined desert golf
The Sand Hollow Experience
Sand Hollow is refinement. Utah''s #1 public course plays across red sand dunes and black lava rock. Conditioning is consistently the best in the area. The back nine (holes 10–15) is one of the finest stretches of golf in Utah.
From our bucket-list trip: "The highlight of the trip. Conditioning was impeccable." Advantage: more playable (slope 137 vs 154), significantly cheaper, and offers on-site resort lodging.
Which Course Is Better for Your Group?
Choose Wolf Creek If
Your group values spectacle over subtlety. Budget allows $300+ per player for one round. Everyone is comfortable with a challenging layout or will play a scramble. You are staying in Mesquite.
Choose Sand Hollow If
Your group wants the best conditioning. You prefer a course that rewards good golf over punishing bad shots. Budget matters — one-third the peak cost. Mixed skill levels. Staying in St. George.
Play Both
Most groups with 3+ nights play both. Wolf Creek on day one (the headliner), Sand Hollow later. They are 90 minutes apart via I-15. Our dual-destination trip story details exactly how — 4 nights splitting between Mesquite and St. George.
