Between Rounds
Got 2–4 hours between your morning and afternoon rounds? Southern Utah has some of the best quick adventures in the country right outside the clubhouse door. Here are the best hikes, water activities, ATV trails, and scenic drives — all timed to fit your golf schedule and mapped to the nearest courses.
🥾 Quick Hikes (1–2 Hours)
Red Cliffs Desert Reserve — Babylon Arch Trail
A short desert trail leading to a stunning natural arch. Red rock scenery the entire way with minimal elevation gain.
💡 Golfer tip: Start by 7 AM if you have an 11 AM tee time. Bring a liter of water per person — the desert is deceptively dry.
Snow Canyon State Park — Jenny's Canyon
A quick slot canyon walk that feels like stepping into another world. Perfect for a group photo op.
💡 Golfer tip: Only 10 minutes from Entrada. You can do this and still make lunch before your afternoon round.
Snow Canyon — Petrified Dunes
Walk across ancient petrified sand dunes with panoramic views of Snow Canyon. No marked trail — just explore the formations.
💡 Golfer tip: Sunrise here is spectacular. Hit it before your morning round at Entrada for an unforgettable start to the day.
Pioneer Park
Right in downtown St. George. Scramble over red rock formations with 360-degree views of the valley.
💡 Golfer tip: Great for the group who has exactly one hour to kill and doesn't want to drive far.
Padre Canyon / Canal Trail
A flat, scenic trail following an irrigation canal through Hurricane. Shaded sections and beautiful canyon views.
💡 Golfer tip: Perfect cool-down walk after a morning round at Sand Hollow — only 10 minutes from the course.
🌊 Water Activities (2–3 Hours)
Sand Hollow Reservoir — Kayaking & Paddleboarding
Crystal-clear water surrounded by red sandstone. Rent kayaks or SUP boards right at the reservoir. The water is warm from May through October.
💡 Golfer tip: Sand Hollow the course is literally next door. Play 18 in the morning, paddle in the afternoon. Rentals available on-site.
Quail Creek Reservoir
Warmer water than Sand Hollow, excellent for swimming and boating. Less crowded on weekdays.
💡 Golfer tip: Great option if Sand Hollow is busy. The water temperature is usually 5–10 degrees warmer.
Tubing the Virgin River
Lazy river float through town on a hot afternoon. Several rental outfits set you up with tubes and shuttle you back.
💡 Golfer tip: Best from June through September when water levels are right. The ultimate post-round cooldown.
🏎️ ATV & Off-Road (2–4 Hours)
Sand Hollow OHV Area — Sand Dunes
Massive sand dunes right next to the reservoir. Rent UTVs or ATVs and rip through the desert. Guided tours available for beginners.
💡 Golfer tip: Book with a local outfitter who provides helmets, training, and guides. Groups of 4–8 can ride together.
Hurricane Rim Trail — Jeep Tour
Guided Jeep tours along the Hurricane Cliffs with views of Zion in the distance. No driving skill needed — a guide takes you.
💡 Golfer tip: Perfect for mixed groups. Everyone gets the thrill without needing off-road experience.
Warner Valley Dinosaur Tracks
Drive out to actual dinosaur footprints preserved in sandstone. A quick detour that feels like a mini Jurassic Park.
💡 Golfer tip: Free to visit. The tracks are about 10 minutes south of St. George on a dirt road. Great for a quick stop.
🚗 Scenic Drives (1–2 Hours)
Snow Canyon Scenic Drive
A gorgeous drive through Snow Canyon State Park with multiple pullouts for photos. Lava flows, red rocks, and sandstone cliffs.
💡 Golfer tip: Do this on your way to or from Entrada/Ledges — it's on the route and adds minimal time.
Zion Canyon Scenic Drive
Drive into Zion National Park, ride the shuttle through the canyon, and take in the iconic views. Even a quick visit is unforgettable.
💡 Golfer tip: Go early (before 9 AM) or after 3 PM to avoid peak shuttle waits. Spring and fall are the sweet spot.
Smithsonian Butte Backroad
A lesser-known dirt road with jaw-dropping views of Zion from above. Most passenger cars can handle it in dry conditions.
💡 Golfer tip: The kind of hidden gem that makes your golf trip photos go viral. Check conditions after rain.
