Trip at a Glance
Ten women from a Bay Area golf league planned a spring getaway to St. George. Black Desert for the luxury round, The Ledges for the scenery, Coral Canyon for the fun round — plus a Zion day and a full spa afternoon. No husbands, no kids, no apologies. Here''s how it went.
Day 1: Coral Canyon — The Warm-Up
We rented a 5-bedroom house near Black Desert and hit Coral Canyon for our arrival-day round. Wide fairways, red rock scenery, and the most relaxed pace we''d had in months. Post-round: wine on the patio. Three of us hadn''t played in two months and Coral Canyon''s forgiveness was exactly what we needed.
Day 2: Black Desert — The Statement Round
Utah''s #1 course and host of a PGA TOUR event. We booked forecaddies — worth every penny. The lava-field fairways are surreal. When we told people back home we played a PGA TOUR venue, the reactions were priceless. One of our 15-handicappers broke 80 with the forecaddie''s help. She hasn''t stopped talking about it.
Day 3: Zion + Spa
Morning at Zion — Canyon Overlook Trail (easy, stunning) and The Narrows (wet, magical). Afternoon at a St. George spa for massages and hot stone treatments. This was the day that turned a "golf trip" into a "wellness retreat that includes golf." We''re using that framing from now on.
Day 4: The Ledges — The Farewell
Morning round at The Ledges. The back nine through Snow Canyon had us stopping for photos on every hole. Best-ball format — the competitive ones got their fix, the social ones enjoyed the walk and the views. Awards ceremony at the house pool: "Best Drive," "Best Recovery," and "Best Post-Shot Dance."
The Bottom Line
Per person for 4 nights: about $950 including lodging, 3 rounds, spa, Zion, and food. We''re making this annual. The Bay Area league now has a waiting list for next year''s trip.
