Trip at a Glance
Everyone told us July in Mesquite was too hot for golf. They were wrong. We booked 6:30 AM tee times, played Wolf Creek for $95 (normally $200+), and spent every afternoon in the pool. Total cost for the weekend: $340 per person. Here''s the summer playbook.
Day 1: Wolf Creek at Dawn
6:30 AM tee time. Temperature at first tee: 74°F. The canyons were in shade, the air was still, and we had the course practically to ourselves. No group in front of us, no group behind us. We finished in 4 hours — our fastest Wolf Creek round ever. By 11 AM we were in the mansion pool with cold beers. It hit 108°F by 2 PM and we didn''t care because we were floating on pool noodles watching the canyon cliffs change color.
Day 2: Conestoga — The Strategic Test
Another 6:30 AM start at Conestoga. The canyon front nine was shaded and cool. By the back nine (8:30 AM) it was warming up but still comfortable. The 1880 Grille was air-conditioned and the post-round beers tasted twice as good. We settled the skins game from both days — $180 changed hands — and hit the road by noon.
Home Base: Golfer''s Paradise Mansion
The Summer Math
Wolf Creek: $95 (normally $200+). Conestoga: $75 (normally $150+). Mansion split 8 ways for 2 nights: $100/person. Food and drinks: $70/person. Grand total: $340 per person for a weekend that would cost $700+ in spring. The secret is out.
