The question every mixed group asks: "Can we do both golf and Zion National Park?" The answer is yes — and it's a better trip than doing either one alone. Zion is 45 minutes from St. George's best courses. The combination gives golfers their dream rounds and gives non-golfers (partners, families, non-playing friends) a world-class national park experience. Nobody compromises. Here's the itinerary.
Sand Hollow's back nine — 45 minutes from Zion National Park. Your group gets world-class golf AND a national park.
Why This Combo Works
Proximity: St. George to Zion's main entrance (Springdale) is 45 minutes. Mesquite to Zion is about 90 minutes. You're not choosing between destinations — they're neighbors.
Mixed groups solved: The golfers play 18 holes in the morning. The non-golfers hike Zion. Everyone meets for dinner. Nobody sits around waiting for the other group. The activities are parallel, not sequential.
Different energy: Golf days and Zion days alternate perfectly. Golf → Zion → Golf → Departure. The variety prevents both golf fatigue and hiking fatigue. Your group comes home having done two bucket-list activities, not just one.
The Golf Side: Best Courses Near Zion
All of these courses are within a 30-45 minute drive of Zion National Park:
Sand Hollow Championship (20 min from Zion): Utah's #1 public course. The cliff-edge back nine rivals Zion's scenery — red canyons, 200-foot drops, three holes on Golf Digest's 100 Greatest. This is the must-play if you're combining golf and Zion.
Black Desert Resort (40 min from Zion): Utah's #1 ranked course. Lava-field fairways, PGA TOUR venue, resort amenities. The premium option for groups that want the ultimate double — Black Desert in the morning, Zion in the afternoon.
Entrada at Snow Canyon (45 min from Zion): Private club with stay-and-play access. Snow Canyon State Park is right next door (10-minute drive), giving you a mini-Zion warm-up without the crowds.
Coral Canyon (35 min from Zion): Best value option with red rock views and wide fairways. Perfect for mixed-ability groups. Save the budget for the premium Zion activities.

Entrada at Snow Canyon — the private course next to Snow Canyon State Park, a warm-up for Zion's grandeur.
The Zion Side: Best Hikes for Golf Groups
The Narrows (moderate): Walk through the Virgin River between thousand-foot canyon walls. Ankle-to-knee-deep water, flat terrain, otherworldly scenery. This is the most popular hike in Zion and it's accessible for anyone who can walk on uneven river rocks. Half-day: 3-4 hours round-trip.
Watchman Trail (easy-moderate): 3.3-mile round-trip with views of Zion Canyon, the Watchman peak, and the town of Springdale below. Manageable for all fitness levels. 1.5-2 hours.
Canyon Overlook Trail (easy): 1-mile round-trip with a jaw-dropping view of Zion Canyon from above. This is the hike for people who "don't hike." 30-45 minutes, minimal effort, maximum payoff.
Angel's Landing (strenuous): The famous chains section with 1,500 feet of elevation gain and exposure on both sides. Only for the adventurous members of your group. Requires a permit (reserve in advance). Half-day commitment.
Scenic Drive (no hiking required): Zion's shuttle runs the length of the canyon floor. Ride through, get off at viewpoints, take photos. Perfect for group members who want the Zion experience without physical exertion.

Logistics & Tips
Zion shuttle: March through November, private vehicles aren't allowed in Zion Canyon. Take the free shuttle from the Visitor Center (or from Springdale). Plan to arrive by 8-9 AM for the best parking and shorter shuttle waits.
Zion permits: Angel's Landing requires advance permits through recreation.gov. Apply during the lottery window (monthly). Other hikes don't require permits but do require paying the $35 park entrance fee (per vehicle, valid 7 days).
Rental vehicle: One SUV or van for the group works for everything — the St. George courses, Zion day trip, and the Vegas airport drives. All roads are paved and easy.
Best time for golf + Zion: March-May and September-November. Zion's summer temperatures hit 100°F+ in the canyon. Spring and fall give comfortable hiking weather (60s-80s) and peak golf conditions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can we do golf and Zion in the same day?
Yes, but it's rushed. A 7 AM tee time gets you off the course by 11:30 AM, then a 45-minute drive to Zion for an afternoon hike. You'll have 3-4 hours in the park. It's doable but we recommend dedicating a full day to Zion for the best experience.
What if some people don't want to hike?
Zion's scenic shuttle goes through the entire canyon — you can ride it without hiking a single step. Canyon Overlook Trail is only 1 mile round-trip. Springdale has restaurants, galleries, and shops for non-hikers. There's no requirement to do strenuous hiking to enjoy Zion.
How do we split the group on golf days?
Golfers take the early tee time. Non-golfers explore Snow Canyon State Park (10 min from most lodging), visit St. George shops and restaurants, or use the vacation rental pool and amenities. Everyone reconnects for dinner. We coordinate parallel itineraries when building your trip quote.
Is this trip good for families?
Excellent. Zion is family-friendly (kids love The Narrows). Vacation rentals accommodate families better than hotels. Pools and hot tubs keep kids entertained during golf hours. Sand Hollow's Links Course offers a shorter, easier option for teens who want to try golf.
What does this trip cost?
For a 4-day trip: $500-$1,200 per person depending on course selection and lodging tier. Zion entrance is $35 per vehicle. Lodging in a shared vacation rental runs $60-120 per person per night. Request a quote for exact pricing based on your group.
